It's that time again! Time for a roundup of all of our recommendations for the month. We love the portion of the show where we chat about what we've been watching, reading, listening to, and eating and we have enjoyed bringing that to you in blog form as well! October is a month where words like cozy, gathering, hygge, and comfort abound and we think our monthly recommendations reflect that feeling. So without further adieu, behold! October recommendations.
Turtles All The Way Down
Both of us read John Green's latest book this month and I (Heather) just finished it. Eryn has already told me she's NOT reading this post until she's done (she doesn't want to know ANYTHING about the book before she's done) so keep in mind, these are just my observations and opinions. I'm sure we'll have a full chat session about this one on the show at some point! Anyway, I knew nothing about this book going in. Nothing. And I'm not usually a big YA lover. It also took me a good three chapters to get hooked, but once I was hooked I was HOOKED! This book is a story about a girl dealing with OCD and anxiety and how her experience affects her relationships. You also get a very real glimpse inside her head and what she called her "invasives." The author portrays the complex emotions of teenagers in a unique way. The book not only makes you think, but it will make you LAUGH! I loved loved the Daisy character and the love and laughter she brought to this story. Such a delight to have some comic relief. I would probably give this 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5!
Thieves, Clove, and Lemon Essential Oil
So many of you loved our episode with Lara Adler on small simple steps towards non-toxic living. One of the easy things you can do to make changes with your home products is to stop using candles. If you're like me and you don't want to give up the amazing smells of fall and the holidays, try diffusing a combo of Thieves, Clove or Lemon essential oil. It will make your house smell like warm Autumn! (Thieves, Lemon, Clove )
The Rob Cast - On Boundaries Episode
If you've listened to the show, you know we are fans of the Rob Cast. We also have talked on more than one occasion on the show about how to incorporate healthy boundaries in your relationships. Although these are not new topics to the show, sometimes if you struggles with a certain issue, hearing it from all angles can make things click into place. If you have enjoyed any of our talks on boundaries in the past but still find yourself struggling with how to make practical changes, check out Rob's recent episode on boundaries. There's probably some good nuggets and pearls in there for you.
Stranger Things 2
We recommended the first season waaaay back in the beginning of our show, and we're going to recommend it again. Will, Dustin, Mike, Eleven, Lucas and friends are baaaack with more mysteries, more drama, and more laughter to entertain you for a full NINE episodes. Haven't watched the first season? If you are game for being sucked in, definitely watch in order and start with the first season because the story builds on itself. If you like mystery, suspense, tenderness, humor, and a WHOLE lotta 80s throw backs....this one's for you.
